If I have seen farther than others, it is because I was standing on the shoulders of giants.

Be reminisced...

Thierry Henry completed a £16million switch to Barcelona on Monday, 25 Jun 2007, ended his 8 years career at Arsenal, scored 226 goals in 364 games. His contribution to Arsenal, English football and the audience will be long remembered.

I always thought he, the captain and legend of Arsenal, would remain to play for Arsenal until he retires. Well, this is life, when you always think something is right or not gonna be wrong, it would pop and prove otherwise. That's why in operations we are always taught not to assume, not to act smart, not to apply our own knowledge and must counter check with different source.
Nothing will stay the same forever, so it's rational for me to leave after 3 years of services in opeations. Ha. Recently just told my boss I wanna 'internal transfer' to investment/product desk by this year and rejected her intention to keep me in operations until next year. My words were so firm and no point of return. Dunno where my courage came from, coz nobody dare to challenge or disagree with her. Basically I just told her I see no progress staying in operations and should waste no time to do something more challenging.
I am so relieved after telling her what I really want in my heart. I know myself best and operations is definitely not suitable for me. I had pondered very long before decided what I wanted to tell her, scared that she would screw me badly. Maybe some people would think I'm stupid coz we should not be so honest to our boss. Whatever not happy or disappointed should not let our boss know. Initially I also thought the same, but the longer I stay in operations, the more jaded I feel. I told myself I cannot continue like this anymore, why should I force myself doing something I dislike? Sometimes things cannot keep too long in the heart, must speak up without fear and hesitation!

Gathering
Tonight we had a very rare but precious old classmates gathering as Ah Kemp will be heading to KL tomorrow. Kemp used to be one of the most popular mascots in our class, so unsurprisingly most of us showed up in the gathering. Kaijin and Feikok also brought their respective 另一伴 along and introduced to us 'officially', and 'finally', ha.
Firstly we had dinner together at a deserted restaurant named "HK 鱼头炉" (recommended by Feikok) in Chinatown. After that there's a coffee session at the Clark Quay tcc. Well, we brought up many jokes and stories which happened 10 years back throughout the gathering. We also had lots of teasings and interrogations on Kemp regarding his mysterious 另一伴. It's great to see that everyone of us still can remember all the small things. This very special feeling cannot be found from the new friends we made after secondary school, I guess.
I think my face looked very fat in the picture and someone was just laughing at my tummy during the badminton game this morning . It's time to keep fit! Beh tahan le.

Long lost friend
Went to Orchard today to meet Ah Kemp, who came all the way from Australia for a 3-day trip. Well, a long lost good friend, we had never met each other for 8 years. The very last time I saw him was at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, when he was leaving to Australia for study.
He used to be one of my best friends in high school and I feel very guilty for losing contact with him during these 8 years. Very sorry bro.
Before meeting Ah Kemp, I walked around CK Tang, Paragon and the Heeren, tried to grab some nice and cheap stuff before the Great Singapore Sales end. Found a very very good bargain at a FCUK shop(one of my fav brand), a long-sleeve shirt that was originally priced at SGD99 but was now discounted 70% and plus further 10% if paid by Citibank credit card. So in the end it's only SGD24 something(minus some points from my credit card). What a great Singapore sales!
I suddenly feel the excitement of sourcing nice and cheap stuff (although it's pure my luck, not my bargain skill) and it relates me to Merger & Aquisition. It's always an area which I'm very interested to explore.....

Six Thinking Hats

Had been sponsored by my company to attend the de Bono's Lateral Thinking/ Six Thinking Hats course at Singapore Institute of Management(SIM) for the past two days. The course was conducted by Sir Peter Low, a very brilliant trainer who also shared a lot of funny jokes with us, made the course so lively and effervescent. It is the best training I have ever gone so far because it gives me a "PO!" and then "AH!", I have been a brainless creature for 26 years!
We are taught to eat, we are taught to walk, we are taught to speak, but we are never taught to think. I just realized that I seldom put on my cap to think properly how I want my life and my work to be. I always go by feeling rather than sitting down to think, because I used to tell myself that I had no time to think and now I know that I didn't have the right skills to think as well. I hope the two-day course could be longer, because I only manage to capture its concept, but not the entire skills to deal with different circumstances.
However, after this course, I'll be more determined to do what I want in my life and my work. No waste time. Skills, experience plus a little bit of luck are the elements for success. Yes, everybody know it I think, but who can consciously follow the paths he is supposed to follow?

You don't necessarily stand at the top to be the top. The great satisfaction always comes when you beat the top unexpectedly.

The rivalry

"Obviously, if I would have won today, I would have had not many other goals to chase in my career. Like this, it stays open. And, eventually, if I get it, the sweeter it's going to taste."

~~ Roger Federer, who lost to his biggest rival Rafael Nadal 3-6, 6-4, 2-6, 4-6 in the French Tennis Open final. He also lost to Nadal in the 2005 semi-final and the 2006 final of French Open. The silver Coupe des Mousquetaires becomes the only Grand Slam trophy missing from the world No. 1-ranked player's collection.

It's nature's way of reminding even the biggest, baddest, swiftest and most skilled among us that somewhere out there is the one somebody who has your number.

Pirates & Mayday
Pirates of the Carribean - At World's End Sorry la 。

Sharing some photos
Found some photos before I brought my camera to the Mayday concert yesterday. These photos were taken during the CNY dinner at Sameer's condo in February. It was a memorable night!

Asset Servicing Team
~ I looked slightly fatter in the picture. Maybe ate too much during the Chinese New Year.

Asia Securities Operations (Asset Servicing + Mufual Fund + Trades Settlement)
~ Those in blue T-shirts were the winners of the Amazing Race (including myself) :)

Preparing the 捞生.....

Ray, Adrian and Eileen were having the dinner happily.

We had team heads' beer challenge after the dinner. Kok Chuen (in white T-shirt) went to the toilet right after he finished the whole can of beer.

We also celebrated Ray's birthday on that night: his birthday present (in the Adidas bag) + 1 can of Tiger beer.
